Residential grading changes the relationship between the foundation, lawn, side yards, patios, drainage points and property boundaries. The work should create the elevation needed for water movement and the material that will be installed next. Adding fill without a defined plan can bury a low area, reduce foundation clearance or redirect runoff toward another part of the property.

Can grading fix every standing-water problem?
No. Grading requires sufficient elevation and a viable surface route. Catch basins, solid pipe, downspout connections or other drainage methods may also be needed.
Can you add soil without removing the existing grass?
Existing vegetation and organic material can create an unstable layer. Removal and preparation requirements depend on the depth, final use and current condition.
How close can the finished soil be to the foundation?
Foundation clearance, exterior materials, drainage and applicable construction conditions must be evaluated onsite. Soil should not be raised without considering those relationships.
Will the area need sod after grading?
Earthwork disturbs existing vegetation. Sod, planting, gravel or another finished surface can be included based on the intended use.
Can grading prepare an area for concrete or pavers?
Yes. The required excavation and subgrade depend on the base, reinforcement, material thickness, finished slope and surrounding elevations.
How is grading priced?
Pricing reflects area, access, removal, cut-and-fill quantities, imported or exported material, equipment, compaction, finish requirements and restoration.
