Yard grading
High and low areas are reshaped to establish positive surface movement while maintaining appropriate transitions near the home and hardscape.
Find the water source, correct the elevation and build a responsible route out.
Standing water rarely begins and ends at the visible puddle. Roof runoff, neighboring grade, settled soil, patios and narrow side yards can combine to keep the lawn wet and send mud toward the home. PLS Landscaping evaluates the complete water path across residential properties in Atascocita and nearby communities. Depending on the actual condition, the construction scope may include yard grading, catch basins, solid drainage pipe, underground downspout extensions, French drains, channel drains and lawn restoration. The correct system begins with the source, collection elevation, conveyance route and available discharge.

Installing a drain at the deepest puddle is not enough when water continues to enter from a downspout, surrounding high ground or a hardscape edge. The cause and outlet must be considered together.
Downspouts and narrow side-yard elevations can concentrate runoff beside the slab where the soil dries slowly.
Settlement, incomplete grading or raised edges can trap rainfall and leave soft ground after surrounding areas dry.
Hard surfaces accelerate water and can direct it toward doors, lawn depressions or planting beds.
New grass cannot correct saturated soil, poor surface movement or concentrated roof runoff beneath it.
Construction selected for the condition
Water on top of the soil and moisture moving through the soil are different problems. Elevation, volume, soil behavior, access and discharge determine the appropriate method.
High and low areas are reshaped to establish positive surface movement while maintaining appropriate transitions near the home and hardscape.
Surface inlets collect runoff at planned low points. Nonperforated pipe carries the water toward the selected outlet.
Roof leaders connect to dedicated solid piping so concentrated water does not empty beside foundations, beds or walkways.
Where subsurface moisture is the primary condition, perforated pipe and drainage aggregate may intercept water within the soil.
Linear collection may be appropriate where water crosses a patio, gate, walkway or another defined hardscape opening.
After underground work and elevation correction, disturbed soil is refined and applicable lawn areas are restored at the planned grade.
French drain or surface drain?
A catch basin is designed to receive visible surface runoff at a specific low point. A French drain is intended to intercept moisture within surrounding soil. Neither one automatically corrects a blocked discharge route or an incorrect finished grade. Some properties need grading alone, some need solid conveyance and others require multiple systems working together.
PLS project work
These photographs show four different parts of residential water management. Each caption identifies the actual work visible instead of treating every open trench as the same drainage system.

Construction sequence
Planning the complete route first reduces unnecessary excavation and prevents the collection system from ending without sufficient fall or a responsible outlet.
Review runoff sources, low areas, foundation clearance, soil, utilities, irrigation, access and outlet options.
Set collection elevations, pipe alignment, required grade changes and the proposed discharge.
Open the work area and protect marked utilities and existing systems within the approved scope.
Place applicable basins and pipe, make connections and restore planned surface elevations.
Review applicable flow, close trenches and complete the specified lawn or landscape restoration.
A yard your household can use after rain
A coordinated drainage correction can reduce mud tracked through the home, make the side gate easier to reach and give children and pets a more dependable lawn surface. It can also protect the investment made in sod, planting and hardscape by directing water through a planned route instead of allowing it to collect beneath finished materials.

Before construction begins
No. French drains address certain subsurface moisture conditions. Surface grading, catch basins, solid pipe, downspout connections, channel drains or another system may be more appropriate.
Sometimes. Grading can work when the property has enough elevation to create continuous surface movement toward a responsible outlet. Obstacles or limited fall may require collection and conveyance.
Roof runoff is normally carried through dedicated solid pipe. Connecting concentrated roof water directly into perforated pipe can release it back into the surrounding soil.
Excavation and grade correction normally disturb existing turf. Applicable soil preparation and sod restoration can be included after underground construction and finish grading are complete.
The outlet depends on property elevations, available routes and applicable requirements. A discharge location must be evaluated onsite and should not be assumed from the puddle location.
Yes. PLS Landscaping serves Atascocita and nearby northeast Houston communities, including portions of Humble and Kingwood. Availability depends on project scope, access and location.

We will evaluate the visible problem, surrounding elevations, roof runoff, access and the available outlet before defining the recommended drainage and grading scope.
