A skid steer can efficiently remove surface material, cut high areas, distribute soil, blend slopes, and prepare larger residential areas. The machine is a tool within the grading plan, not a substitute for elevation measurements or finish work.

Raised soil, construction disturbance, and misplaced fill can block the natural route that runoff needs to follow.
Insufficient Finished Elevation
Some yards require suitable soil placement and blending to raise low surfaces while maintaining foundation and hardscape clearances.
Unprepared Project Areas
Sod, drainage, concrete, pavers, gravel, and retaining construction require an intentional starting elevation and prepared subgrade.

Efficient machine work must still respect drainage direction, foundation exposure, fence and gate clearances, tree roots, irrigation components, utilities, and the thickness of the material that will be installed afterward.
Surface Removal
Remove failed lawn, roots, loose organic material, unsuitable soil, and construction debris that cannot remain beneath the finished surface.
Cut and Fill
Excavate high areas, place suitable material in low sections, and redistribute soil according to the proposed grade.
Soil Placement
Distribute select fill or topsoil in controlled lifts where additional elevation or a suitable finish layer is required.
Slope Formation
Blend corrected elevations into surrounding grades and direct surface water toward the intended swale, inlet, or discharge route.
Compaction
Compact placed material where required for stability and the intended finished use, while avoiding inappropriate overcompaction in planting or turf-root zones.
Finish Grading
Verify elevations and complete detailed hand grading so the final surface is ready for sod, seed, gravel, drainage, or construction.
The final use determines the grading specification.
A lawn, drainage system, concrete slab, paver base, and gravel area do not use the same finished elevation. The grading plan must reserve space for the complete material assembly.

Complete Earthwork
Remove unsuitable material, cut high areas, place soil, compact as required, and blend corrected slopes.
Check the Surface
Recheck critical elevations, low points, foundation clearance, transitions, and the planned surface-flow path.
Hand Grade and Restore
Rake and refine the surface, remove debris, and prepare the area for the final lawn or construction phase.
Not every backyard can support skid-steer access.
Before planning machine work, we review gate width, side-yard clearance, fence openings, overhead obstacles, underground utilities, septic components, irrigation, tree roots, soil bearing conditions, and the route used to enter and exit the work area.
Site-readiness review
Complete the systems affected by the new grade.
A corrected surface may require drainage infrastructure, lawn restoration, irrigation adjustments, or a coordinated landscape-construction phase.
