Sloped or unusable lawn
An abrupt elevation change limits walking, mowing and family use.
Hold the soil, manage the water and reconnect uneven yard levels.
Sloping lawns, washed-out planting beds, exposed roots and soil collecting on patios are signs that grade and runoff are working against the property. PLS Landscaping evaluates the elevation change, water source, soil movement, nearby trees, access and the surfaces above and below the proposed wall. The construction plan may combine excavation, a compacted aggregate base, segmental wall units, drainage aggregate, solid pipe, controlled backfill and final grading. The finished work can protect raised landscape areas, create clearer lawn levels and give children, pets and family members a more dependable way to move through the yard.

The wall location must relate to the source of runoff, the amount of retained soil and the surfaces it connects. A low landscape border may define a bed, but it should not be presented as a retaining solution when soil pressure, loading or a substantial grade change is involved.
An abrupt elevation change limits walking, mowing and family use.
Runoff carries exposed soil into lawn, patios, drains or neighboring areas.
Patios, walkways and lawn edges can meet the slope at elevations that leave soil unsupported or redirect runoff.
Poor drainage increases pressure and can contribute to movement, staining and settlement.
Retaining construction by function
Wall height, length, slope, runoff, access, nearby structures, trees and intended loading are reviewed before material quantities are defined.
Organic or unstable surface material is removed so the wall base bears on a properly prepared, level construction surface.
Aggregate is placed and compacted to support the first course, which controls the alignment of the wall above it.
Segmental units are installed with the specified alignment, bond pattern and setback for the selected system and application.
Drainage aggregate, filter separation and applicable pipe or outlets manage water entering the retained zone.
Backfill, final grading, sod, planting or adjacent hardscape are completed around the finished wall elevation.

Construction sequence
Review grade change, runoff, soil, trees, access, utilities and nearby structures.
Define wall limits, finished elevations, drainage and restoration boundaries.
Prepare bearing and compact the aggregate base for the first course.
Install wall units, drainage aggregate and applicable pipe or outlets.
Complete backfill, final grade, planting, hardscape or sod restoration.
Recover useful space from the slope
A properly planned elevation transition can reduce eroding soil, define planting areas and create a smoother lawn for children, pets and family use. It also gives walkways and patios cleaner edges instead of leaving loose soil to wash across completed surfaces.

No. A border defines an edge or contains shallow bed material. A retaining wall supports a grade change and must be constructed for soil pressure, drainage and its specific site conditions.
Water entering the retained zone must be relieved. The drainage section may include aggregate, separation fabric, pipe or outlets depending on the wall system and site.
A wall can support a planned elevation change, but the upper lawn still requires appropriate backfill, grading, drainage, soil preparation and sod installation.
The wall supports the retained grade, but surface runoff above and below it must also be controlled. Unmanaged water can continue to erode adjacent areas.
Requirements depend on wall height, loads, location, local rules and site conditions. These factors must be evaluated for the specific property before construction.
Pricing depends on wall dimensions, excavation, access, disposal, base material, wall system, drainage, backfill, reinforcement requirements and surface restoration.
