Runoff source
Measure the driveway, patio, roof and adjoining surfaces contributing water to the problem area.
Collect water before it crosses the surface
Water moving across a driveway or patio can approach the garage, collect near doors, carry debris over finished concrete and leave lawn edges saturated. The visible puddle is only one part of the condition. PLS Landscaping evaluates the contributing surface area, slope, collection elevation, pipe route and responsible discharge point. We then build the appropriate combination of channel drains, catch basins, grading and solid underground conveyance around the actual property.
Where hard-surface runoff becomes a property problem
Concrete, pavers and roof areas can release water quickly. When their slopes converge at a garage, patio door, gate or low lawn edge, the collection system must intercept that volume at the correct elevation and move it through a dependable outlet.
A driveway that slopes toward the home can concentrate rainfall across the full garage opening.
Flat or conflicting elevations can hold water near thresholds, covered patios and outdoor living areas.
Concentrated discharge from concrete can erode soil, damage sod and create a recurring low area.
Settlement, raised borders or new surfaces can interrupt the path between the hardscape and yard.
One connected drainage route
A grate is one component. Capacity, invert elevation, pipe slope, cleanout access and the discharge point determine whether the complete route can function.
Measure the driveway, patio, roof and adjoining surfaces contributing water to the problem area.
Position channel drains or catch basins where water naturally reaches the grate without creating a trip edge.
Move collected surface water through solid pipe with a route and slope suited to the property.
Select an outlet based on achievable elevation, property conditions and applicable local requirements.
Channel drains
A linear channel drain may be appropriate across a driveway, garage approach, patio edge, gate or walkway. The drain body, grate, concrete support, outlet connection and finish elevation must be coordinated with the traffic load and adjoining surface.
Catch basins and grading
Catch basins can receive water from a low lawn edge, paver area or localized concrete transition. Grade correction may be required so water reaches the basin instead of remaining in shallow depressions beside it.
Drainage construction in the field
These four distinct project photographs show linear collection, concrete integration, a surface basin and underground pipe construction.

A construction sequence built around fixed surfaces
Concrete, garage floors, patios and doors are fixed elevations. The drainage plan must work between them and the available outlet.
Review runoff areas, surface slope, low points, doors, garages and discharge options.
Establish grate height, outlet depth, pipe route and restoration limits.
Open the collection area and conveyance trench while protecting marked utilities.
Set drain components, solid pipe, applicable cleanouts and the selected outlet.
Complete concrete or landscape restoration and review applicable flow and connections.

Patio and driveway drainage questions
PLS Landscaping evaluates residential drainage projects across Houston and nearby communities. Availability depends on scope, access and location.
A channel drain may be useful where water crosses a wide hard-surface opening, such as a driveway, garage approach, patio edge or gate. Capacity, grate type, support and outlet must match the condition.
Yes, when surrounding grade can direct water toward the grate and the basin connects to a workable conveyance and discharge route.
Often, but installation may require saw cutting, concrete removal, excavation, drain support, pipe connection and concrete restoration. Existing slope and outlet depth must be evaluated first.
The outlet depends on property elevations, the available route and applicable local requirements. A drain should not be selected without confirming where its water can responsibly go.
Excavation disturbs the collection area and pipe route. The approved scope identifies required concrete, paver, gravel, soil or sod restoration after drainage construction.
Pricing is based on measured drainage length, collection components, excavation, access, pipe depth, concrete work, disposal, outlet construction and restoration.

We will review the contributing surfaces, fixed elevations, collection location, pipe route and available discharge before defining the construction scope.
