Should drainage be addressed before installing a patio?
Yes. A patio changes how rainfall crosses and leaves the area. Existing low points, roof runoff, nearby beds, discharge routes, and required surface pitch should be evaluated before finished elevations are set.
Which is better, pavers, flagstone, or gravel?
None is universally better. Pavers suit controlled modular layouts, flagstone supports a more organic stone character, and gravel works well in selected informal or mixed-material areas. Use, grade, access, maintenance expectations, and budget determine the better fit.
Can a walkway be installed over the existing lawn?
A lasting installation requires more than placing finish material on grass. The route generally requires removal, excavation, elevation control, a material-appropriate base, edge detailing, and restoration.
Can borders hold back a major grade difference?
Decorative garden borders can manage limited material separation or small elevation changes. Larger retained heights, surcharge, drainage pressure, or structural loads may require a retaining-wall design rather than ordinary edging.
