Yes, when the proposed route crosses beneath the hardscape or when the finished surface changes existing runoff. Pipe, inlets, channel drains, sleeves, and discharge work should be completed before the final base and surface.
Can pavers, concrete pads, and gravel be combined?
Yes. These materials work well together when each has a suitable base, gravel is contained, walking surfaces remain stable, and the combined elevations maintain proper drainage and safe transitions.
What causes paver patios and walkways to settle?
Common causes include inadequate excavation, poorly compacted soil or base, missing edge restraint, trapped water, unsuitable bedding material, and concentrated loads that were not considered during construction.
Can artificial turf be installed beside pavers or concrete?
Yes. The turf base, perimeter attachment, drainage, infill, and finished height must be coordinated with the hardscape edge so the connection remains clean and does not trap water or create a trip point.
Do small retaining walls require drainage?
