Front & Backyard
Grading Services.
Residential yard grading in Spring, Texas, for low areas, uneven lawns, poor surface flow, new-construction lots, post-pool restoration, sod preparation, and outdoor construction. We establish workable elevations and slopes before the finished surface is installed.
The finish depends on the elevations beneath it.
Uneven ground is often an elevation problem, not a surface problem.
Adding a thin layer of soil may hide a depression temporarily, but it does not correct an unsuitable grade. Effective work accounts for the foundation, brick line, patios, walks, fences, drainage outlets, and the depth required for the final material.
Settled or Sunken Ground
Depressions hold rainfall, weaken turf, create muddy conditions, and interrupt the intended path of surface water.
Water Moving Toward the House
A flat or reversed surface can direct runoff toward the foundation, entry, garage, patio, or other low structure.
Disturbed or Compacted Soil
Pool work, demolition, utility work, and new-home construction can leave ruts, spoil piles, hardpan, and inconsistent elevations.
Poor Base for Sod or Hardscape
Sod, turf, gravel, patios, and walkways require a properly shaped subgrade with room for the complete construction assembly.
The yard determines the grading approach.
Protect the visible and structural transitions.
Front-yard elevations must coordinate with the street, curb, driveway, sidewalk, front walk, entry, utility boxes, trees, and foundation. The work may include removing failed turf, placing select fill or topsoil, correcting localized settlement, and preparing for sod.
Correct trapped areas within limited access.
Backyards often contain enclosed low points, fence-line runoff, patios, pools, sheds, mature trees, narrow gates, and insufficient fall toward an outlet. Equipment selection, access protection, soil movement, drainage coordination, and final restoration must be planned together.
Build the grade for the finished use.
The required method depends on the existing soil, elevation change, access, drainage route, and what will be installed afterward.
Cut-and-Fill Grading
Remove high sections, fill low areas, and redistribute suitable soil to create the planned surface elevations.
Fill Soil Placement
Import appropriate material where existing elevations cannot be corrected through redistribution alone, then place and compact it in workable lifts.
Skid-Steer Grading
Use compact construction equipment for excavation, soil movement, rough grading, material spreading, and larger elevation corrections where access permits.
Drainage-Related Grading
Shape swales and surface routes or coordinate the finish grade with catch basins, underground pipes, and a viable discharge point.
Sod and Lawn Preparation
Establish a smooth soil surface, correct minor irregularities, mark sprinkler heads, and preserve the proper elevation below adjacent hard surfaces.
Construction Preparation
Prepare elevations for gravel, artificial turf, patios, walkways, borders, planting beds, and coordinated landscape-construction work.
Control the elevation from inspection to finish grade.
Grading is a sequence of measurement, removal, soil placement, shaping, compaction, and final refinement. Skipping one stage can leave soft areas, poor transitions, or water trapped behind the finished surface.
Discuss Site Access by PhoneSite and Elevation Review
Inspect existing grades, structures, water movement, utilities, final-use requirements, gates, and equipment access.
Removal and Rough Grading
Remove failed turf, debris, roots, excess soil, or unsuitable surface material, then establish the broad yard shape.
Soil Placement and Compaction
Spread approved material in controlled depths and compact where needed to reduce settlement and establish a stable subgrade.
Finish Grading and Cleanup
Refine transitions by machine and hand, verify surface flow, maintain foundation clearance, and prepare the area for its final installation.
Grading cannot create an outlet that the property does not have.
Positive slope is valuable only when water has somewhere appropriate to go. Some yards can be corrected through surface grading. Others need catch basins, solid PVC, a French drain, downspout routing, or a pumped discharge because surrounding elevations prevent gravity flow.

Can grading eliminate every backyard drainage problem?
No. Grading can improve surface flow when adequate elevation and a viable outlet exist. Enclosed or very flat yards may also require drainage inlets, underground piping, or a sump-pump system.
Do you use a skid steer for residential grading?
Yes, where the size of the correction and property access justify machine work. Gate width, overhead clearance, turning space, utilities, fences, patios, and ground conditions determine the appropriate equipment.
Can soil be added against the foundation?
Soil should not cover the foundation or brick line. The finished elevation must preserve clearance and still provide room for sod, gravel, or another final surface.
Is topsoil enough to repair a deep low area?
Not always. Deep corrections may require a suitable fill material placed and compacted below a finish layer. Loose topsoil used as deep fill can settle and recreate the depression.
Can sod be installed after grading?
Yes. Grading and sod installation can be coordinated so the final soil surface, sprinkler-head elevations, transitions, and grass placement work as one sequence.
