Roof runoff
Downspouts discharge concentrated water beside the slab or into a bed.
French drains, catch basins and downspout lines solve different parts of the problem.
Standing water near the foundation, saturated side yards and roof runoff washing across the lawn are related conditions, but they do not require identical components. Catch basins collect surface water at planned low points. Solid pipe carries collected water and roof runoff without releasing it into the surrounding soil. A French drain uses perforated pipe and drainage aggregate to intercept subsurface moisture. PLS Landscaping evaluates the water source, elevations, soil, access and available discharge before combining the applicable components into one underground drainage system for the property.

A French drain is designed for moisture moving through soil. It is not automatically the best way to collect concentrated roof runoff or broad surface flow. Those conditions generally require dedicated collection and solid conveyance. The site evaluation determines which sources are present and whether multiple systems should remain separate or connect to a shared outlet.
Downspouts discharge concentrated water beside the slab or into a bed.
Rainfall collects where grade, hardscape or settlement interrupts flow.
Subsurface moisture keeps an area soft even after visible water recedes.
A pipe without sufficient fall or a workable outlet cannot move water reliably.
Components selected by function
Perforated pipe, drainage aggregate and filter fabric intercept subsurface moisture where soil saturation is the condition being addressed.
Grated inlets collect surface flow at established low points before water enters the underground solid-pipe route.
Adapters connect gutter leaders to dedicated solid pipe so concentrated roof water does not empty beside the foundation.
Non-perforated pipe transports collected water through the yard without intentionally releasing it into surrounding soil.
Accessible fittings and correctly assembled branches support inspection and the planned movement of water through the system.
Trenches are closed, disturbed elevations are restored and applicable sod or surface materials are installed after underground work.

Construction sequence
Review sources, low areas, grade, soil, utilities, access and the possible outlet.
Assign basins, downspout branches, French-drain segments and solid pipe by function.
Open the route while accounting for marked utilities, irrigation and site access.
Set inlets, pipe, fittings, aggregate and fabric where each applies.
Review applicable flow, close trenches and restore disturbed surfaces.
Protect everyday use of the property
A coordinated underground system can reduce recurring wet routes near gates, patios and play areas. That means less mud carried indoors by children and pets, fewer washed-out bed edges and a better foundation for lawn or hardscape restoration after construction.

No. A French drain addresses certain subsurface moisture conditions. Surface runoff may require grading, catch basins or solid conveyance pipe instead.
Concentrated roof runoff is normally carried in solid pipe. Connecting it directly to perforated pipe can release roof water into the soil the system is intended to drain.
The outlet depends on property elevations, site constraints and applicable requirements. It must be evaluated onsite rather than assumed from the puddle location.
The number and placement depend on surface flow, low points, inlet capacity and the route to discharge. More basins do not correct an inadequate outlet or poor alignment.
Trenching disturbs the installation route. Applicable soil preparation and sod restoration can be included after underground work and final elevations are complete.
Pricing depends on access, excavation, pipe length, inlet quantity, fittings, aggregate, disposal, utility and irrigation conflicts, discharge construction and restoration.
