Downspout adapters
Selected gutter leaders connect to underground piping through accessible fittings that direct roof runoff below grade.
Collect concentrated runoff and carry it through a planned underground route.
A downspout can release hundreds of gallons beside the home during a strong rain. When that water meets a narrow side yard, settled lawn or raised hardscape edge, the result may be foundation-side pooling, muddy access and damaged sod. PLS Landscaping evaluates where roof and surface runoff enter the property, where water can be collected and whether the yard has sufficient fall to reach a responsible outlet. The construction scope may connect gutter downspouts to dedicated solid pipe, add catch basins at planned low points, provide cleanout access, correct limited surface grades and restore disturbed lawn areas after testing.

A short splash block may shift roof water only a few feet. If the surrounding grade is flat or blocked, the same runoff can collect beside the foundation, cross a walkway or settle into the lawn. The entire route must be evaluated before pipe is installed.
Downspouts that empty beside the slab can repeatedly saturate planting beds and narrow strips of lawn.
Concentrated roof runoff can cross the route used by children, pets and service access after every heavy rain.
Several downspouts may discharge into one low portion of the yard, exceeding what surface grading alone can manage.
Runoff from roofs, patios and surrounding grades can collect at low points that require a properly set catch basin.
A connected roof and surface drainage system
The system is designed around runoff volume, inlet elevation, pipe alignment, available fall, access and the selected outlet. Components are combined only where they serve the actual water route.
Selected gutter leaders connect to underground piping through accessible fittings that direct roof runoff below grade.
Grated inlets are set at planned low points to receive visible runoff from lawn, bed or hardscape-edge areas.
Nonperforated pipe carries collected water through the property without intentionally releasing it into surrounding soil.
Service points may be incorporated where the pipe arrangement, direction changes or connected roof lines make future access appropriate.
Limited elevation correction helps guide surface runoff toward catch basins and prevents restored soil from blocking inlet flow.
After connections and applicable flow are reviewed, trenches are closed and disturbed lawn areas are restored to the specified finish.
Solid pipe is not a French drain
Downspouts and catch basins collect concentrated surface water. That flow is normally transported through solid, nonperforated pipe. A French drain uses perforated pipe and aggregate to intercept moisture within surrounding soil. Combining these functions without a deliberate design can release roof runoff back into the same ground the project is intended to protect.
PLS project work
These four photographs show separate stages and components of residential drainage construction, from an open downspout connection to the completed outlet.

Construction sequence
The system is planned from source to discharge so collected water does not enter a pipe route that lacks sufficient fall or a responsible endpoint.
Review roof leaders, ponding areas, foundation clearance, utilities, irrigation, access and outlet options.
Establish basin heights, pipe alignment, required fall and the proposed discharge point.
Open the route while protecting marked utilities and known irrigation within the construction scope.
Install applicable adapters, basins, solid pipe, fittings and access points before closing the trench.
Check applicable flow, complete backfill and restore specified lawn or planting areas.
A cleaner route around the home
Controlled drainage can reduce mud beside the gate, protect newly installed sod and make the route between the front and backyard more dependable after rain. Children and pets have a cleaner surface to cross, while patios, beds and lawn areas receive less concentrated runoff from the roof. The improvement is largely underground, but its value is visible in how the property functions during and after storms.

Before construction begins
They may be able to share a route when pipe capacity, connection layout, elevations and discharge conditions support the combined flow. The arrangement must be evaluated for the specific property.
Solid pipe transports concentrated roof runoff without intentionally releasing it into the surrounding soil. Perforated pipe serves a different subsurface-drainage function.
A catch basin should be set at a verified collection elevation where surface water can reach the grate. Installing it above the surrounding low area prevents effective collection.
Accessible service points can be useful, particularly where multiple roof lines connect or the route includes direction changes. Their placement depends on the system layout.
Underground pipe installation requires excavation. The affected area can be backfilled, refined to the planned grade and restored with applicable sod after the system is installed.
