Select each construction system for how the space will be used. Seating, walking routes and open turf areas place different demands on the materials beneath them.
Where you move
Artificial turf can create a consistent surface for open yard areas without mowing. The turf specification, base, infill and cleaning requirements should match family activities and pet use.
Where water goes
Finished slopes, collection points and discharge routes are planned together. A clean surface should not conceal a low spot or redirect runoff toward the house.

A seating area should feel settled into the yard, not placed on top of it. Walking surfaces should connect naturally, and edges should keep the surrounding materials contained. These details bring order to the space while supporting daily use.
The construction beneath the appearance

Remove what cannot support the new work
Remove existing grass, roots, unsuitable soil and designated hardscape within the approved limits. Review access before equipment arrives, protect retained features and identify utilities, private lines and irrigation before excavation. Disposal and removal quantities are included in the defined scope.
Establish elevations and drainage
Use elevation checks to coordinate the house, patio, gates, lawn edges and intended outlet. Install necessary collection and conveyance while the site is open. Existing drains are evaluated before reuse; their presence alone does not establish that they have adequate fall or capacity.
Prepare separate base assemblies
Excavate to accommodate the selected paver and turf assemblies. Address soft subgrade, use separation material where appropriate and install suitable aggregate in controlled, compacted lifts. Paver bedding and turf finishing layers are selected for their respective systems. One loose layer of sand is not a substitute for a supporting base.
Construct pavers and restrained edges
Set the paver layout, maintain alignment, make perimeter cuts and install edge restraint suited to the assembly. Select joint material for the paver system. At adjoining turf, gravel or existing concrete, coordinate elevations and containment so materials stay in their intended areas.
Fit, secure and finish the turf
Check the prepared surface, orient turf consistently, fit perimeter cuts and form seams using the selected product system. Secure edges, apply suitable infill where required and brush the fibers. Keep drain grates accessible and review runoff paths before final cleanup.
Plan irrigation before covering the ground.
Unused lawn heads may need to be capped or rerouted, while retained trees and planting beds still need appropriate water. Valves and service points should remain accessible. Any irrigation changes are identified in the proposal.

If the project changes paving limits or drainage arrangements, clarify applicable community approvals before construction. The written scope establishes what will be removed, rebuilt, retained and restored.
Practical answers
Before rebuilding your backyard
Can you rebuild the entire backyard in one project?
Yes. The scope can combine removal, drainage, grading, base construction, paver areas, artificial turf and affected irrigation adjustments. We measure the site and identify which existing features can remain before preparing the proposal.
Can artificial turf be installed over the existing lawn?
For a full reconstruction, the existing grass, roots and unsuitable material are removed. The turf needs a prepared, compacted base with elevations and drainage appropriate to the site. Covering the existing lawn can leave an unstable surface as organic material breaks down.
Will artificial turf solve standing water?
Not by itself. Water passing through the turf still needs a route through or away from the base. We review runoff sources, soil conditions and outlet elevations before choosing grading, collection drains or other measures.
Will pavers and turf finish at the same height?
We plan their transitions together, accounting for paver thickness, bedding, base depth, turf backing and pile. The goal is a supported, comfortable transition without exposed edges or a surface that traps water. The exact detail depends on the products and intended use.
Is artificial turf maintenance-free or always cool?
No. Turf can become hot in direct sun and needs debris removal, brushing and cleaning appropriate to its use. Pet areas require a cleaning routine, and seams, infill and drainage should remain serviceable. We discuss shade and how the family will use the space when planning the layout.
What determines the project price and schedule?
Measured area, demolition, access width, disposal, excavation, drainage, base conditions, paver selection, turf specification and irrigation changes all affect the scope. Weather and material availability also influence scheduling. An onsite review allows us to provide a project-specific proposal.
