Technical Considerations
Finished soil, sod, gravel, and mulch must remain below the foundation and weep-hole line.
Major elevation changes around mature trees can affect roots and trunk flare and require a restrained approach.
Catch basins or solid pipe may be needed where surface grading alone cannot maintain flow to an outlet.
Deep fill, unsuitable soil, or poor compaction can produce later depressions beneath sod, turf, or other finishes.

Not always. Grading works when adequate elevation difference and a viable surface route exist. Some properties also need catch basins, solid pipe, or another controlled drainage system.
Meaningful elevation correction usually disturbs the existing lawn. The restoration method is determined by the amount of excavation, fill, and access required.
Finished elevations are planned to remain below the slab, brick line, and weep holes while directing surface water away from the structure.
Significant fill over established root zones can damage trees. Root location, trunk flare, tree value, and the required elevation change must be evaluated before work begins.
