Artificial Turf With Pavers

Artificial grass installed around square pavers, stepping slabs, walkways, patios, or seating pads. The paver elevations, turf base, seams, drainage, anchoring, cuts, and infill must be coordinated before either surface is finished.

Pool-Area Hardscape Renovation

Renovation of the outdoor surfaces surrounding a pool using pavers, concrete, stone, turf, or gravel. Work is planned around deck elevation, drainage, coping transitions, access, slip resistance, furniture areas, and the existing pool structure.

Gravel and Paver Zones

Black Star gravel, decorative rock, or other selected aggregate installed with excavation, separation fabric where appropriate, compacted support, edge restraint, paver placement, drainage, and clean transitions to lawn or turf.

Scope clarification: Pool-area renovation refers to the patios, pavers, walkways, turf, gravel, drainage, and landscaping surrounding the pool. Pool-shell, plumbing, equipment, and interior-finish work require separate review.

Turf wrinkles, pavers settle, gravel migrates, and pool transitions separate when excavation depth, compaction, drainage, edge restraint, or material elevation is incorrect. The supporting layers must be designed before the visible layout.

Strip grass, roots, loose soil, failed base, and materials unsuitable for supporting the finished system.

02 / STABILIZE

Build and Compact the Base

Install the specified aggregate layers and compact them to support turf, pavers, or gravel.

Control Surface and Base Water

Set finished slope and add inlets, solid conveyance, or subsurface relief where site conditions require it.

04 / RESTRAIN

Secure Edges and Transitions

Hold materials in position and connect turf, pavers, gravel, concrete, coping, fences, and planting zones cleanly.

Renovate the Surrounding Surface Without Creating New Failures

ELEVATION

Coping and Deck Transitions

Finished pavers, turf, or gravel must connect to the existing pool edge without burying drainage paths, creating trip points, or interfering with deck joints.

WATER

Runoff and Pool Splash

The system must manage rainfall, downspouts, wash water, and repeated pool splash while directing water away from the home and avoiding trapped base moisture.

USE

Heat, Footing, and Access

Material selection should consider surface temperature, wet-foot traction, furniture loads, gates, equipment access, maintenance routes, and daily circulation around the pool.

Questions Before Construction

Can artificial turf be installed between large pavers?

Yes. The pavers must be installed at the correct finished elevation over a stable base before the turf is cut, secured, seamed, and infilled around them. Narrow joints require precise cuts and adequate anchoring.

Is artificial turf suitable around a swimming pool?

It can be suitable when the base drains correctly and transitions at coping, decks, drains, and pavers are properly constructed. Surface temperature, pool splash, foot traffic, chemicals, furniture, and maintenance access should be considered.

What type of gravel can be used with pavers?

Black Star gravel and other decorative aggregates can be used depending on the design. Stone size, depth, edge restraint, fabric, drainage, foot traffic, maintenance, and the intended use determine the appropriate installation.

Can an existing pool patio be replaced with pavers?

Possibly. The existing surface, pool edge, base, drainage, elevation, expansion joints, access, and demolition requirements must be evaluated. The new paver system cannot be designed correctly from surface measurements alone.

Do turf, pavers, and gravel need separate base materials?

They may require different depths, aggregate gradations, bedding materials, compaction, and drainage details. The surfaces can be visually integrated while still receiving the support system appropriate for each material.
