Artificial turf eliminates mowing and mud at the surface, but it does not remove roof runoff, raise a settled yard, create a discharge point, or repair an unstable subgrade. Those conditions must be addressed before the permeable base is enclosed by the turf.

The base principles remain consistent, but traffic, heat, water exposure, edges, cleaning requirements, and play characteristics change the installation.

Artificial Turf

Complete lawn replacement with removal, subgrade preparation, permeable aggregate, controlled grade, secured edges, fitted seams, turf placement, infill, and final grooming.

Artificial Turf + Paver Border

Pavers establish a durable edge, walking route, or patio frame. Base elevations, paver restraint, joint alignment, turf fastening, and water movement must be coordinated.

Artificial Turf + Concrete

Turf can connect to patios, stepping pads, walkways, pool decks, and slab extensions. The transition must protect edge height, trip clearance, drainage, and clean cutting lines.

Artificial Turf + Drainage Base

A permeable base supports surface drainage. Sites with concentrated runoff or low elevations may also require grading, inlets, downspout piping, or subsurface collection before base installation.

Artificial Turf + Putting Green

A putting surface requires separate planning for contours, cup locations, fringe, ball speed, seams, drainage, and the transition between putting turf and surrounding landscape turf.

Pool installations must address deck drainage, coping clearances, splash exposure, heat, access to equipment, edge fastening, and clean transitions around hardscape.

Confirm use, access, elevations, drainage, utilities, irrigation, transitions, and limits of work.

Remove and excavate

Remove lawn, soil, roots, debris, or failed base to the depth required for the new assembly.

Complete buried systems

Construct the base

Place aggregate in controlled lifts, establish the planned surface, compact, and verify transition elevations.

Fit and secure turf

Before choosing the turf

Does artificial turf need a drainage base?

Yes. A prepared permeable base supports the turf, establishes the finished surface, and allows water to move through the installation. Additional drainage components may be required when the site has limited fall, concentrated runoff, or recurring saturation.

Should drainage work be completed before turf?

Yes, when correction is needed. Downspout routes, drainpipe, inlets, subsurface collection, and major grading should be completed before the aggregate base and turf restrict excavation access.

Can turf be installed between concrete pads or pavers?

Yes. The layout must allow accurate cuts, secure edges, practical joint widths, a stable base, consistent elevations, and a route for water. The hardscape and turf details should be planned together.

What changes for a pool-area installation?

The design must account for deck and coping elevations, splash water, surface heat, drainage, equipment access, perimeter fastening, and safe transitions between turf and the hard pool surface.

Is pet turf a different product?

Pet-use areas may require a different turf and infill combination, along with stronger attention to permeability, seam placement, edge security, rinsing access, and routine cleaning. The pet size, number of animals, and area of concentrated use matter.

Can a putting green connect to regular landscape turf?

Yes. The putting surface, cups, contours, fringe, surrounding turf, seams, and drainage must be laid out as one system so the play area and general-use area connect cleanly.
